LATEST NEWS - Sept 2025 Diversion Route at Hammerwood

The Seven Sisters
(Sept 2025) This month a temporary diversion is in place at Hammerwood (Points 4.14-4.15) whilst East Sussex council rebuild the brick bridge just south of "Wet Wood" (the mysterious wood just south of Hammerwood).
A diversion route is signposted between the private drive south from the A264 & Thornhill Rd.

Please divert at red circles on the map above to use the orange route. This avoids the closed bridleway marked in red.

For the latest news on the Vanguard Way you should also look at our Facebook site by searching for Vanguard Way Association on Facebook.

Please remember that train and bus services can often change at short notice, so you should check on-line or by phone before travelling if you are relying on a particular bus or train.  Similarly, pubs and cafes may change their name or close with little notice.
If you have a particular question or comment on the route description or information about pub closures email
chair@vanguardway.org.uk.  Similarly, for questions or comments on signage, the condition of paths, obstructions, &c email chair@vanguardway.org.uk.

Check the Major Route Alterations button for information about diversions and path problems.

Newhaven Harbour train station has a limited service, so we have extended the route to end at Newhaven Town station where there is a regular service.

Members of the Vanguard Way Association receive regular newsletters with details of changes and developments along the trail - see Home Page.
